Sustain, Vol. 2 – Solo Piano and Chamber Works (2021) is a contemporary classical compilation released by Navona Records. As a follow-up to the original Sustain, this volume centers around the expressive and structural possibilities of piano-based music within a 21st-century chamber context.
Featuring works by Karen Tarlow, Chen-Hsin Su, John Craven, Gordon Monahan, Ron Nagorcka, Kenneth A. Kuhn, Jim Puckett, Sarah Wallin-Huff, Bill Sherrill, John A. Carollo, and Santiago Kodela, the album presents a diverse range of compositional approaches. The collection moves fluidly between tonal and atonal languages, showcasing varied textures and formal ideas across solo piano and chamber settings.
This live recording of Bewildered Soliloquies was captured at the National Concert Hall in Dublin, performed by Fidelio Trio. The work explores layered textures and harmonic resonance within the chamber music tradition, unfolding through shifting gestures and reflective intensities. The National Concert Hall’s acoustic environment lends warmth and dimensionality to the performance, preserving both intimacy and clarity.
The recording was mixed and mastered by Grammy-winning engineer Bob Katz, ensuring sonic balance, depth, and precision while retaining the vitality of the live concert setting.
Released on April 23, 2021 (Catalog No. NV6345), Sustain, Vol. 2 reflects Navona Records’ ongoing commitment to presenting new works by international composers working across the evolving landscape of contemporary classical music.
